I am a Colombian astronomer and PhD student at the University of La Serena, Chile. I did my undergraduate studies in astronomy at the University of Antioquia, Colombia. During my undergraduate studies I studied galaxy mergers with the purpose of understanding how the interaction of galaxies affected star formation. Now during my PhD I focus on galaxy evolution in dense environments, especially in compact groups, with the idea of studying how the environment can affect the physical and morphological transformations. On the other hand, I belong to the Quimikomedia group, where the purpose is to make people laugh with a touch of science. Besides, I love running and hybrid athlete training.

Research

My main areas of interest are the evolution and formation of galaxies and the large-scale structure of the universe.

PhD research

Currently during my PhD I study how the environment affects the evolution of galaxies (in this particular case dense environments such as compact groups, compared to the field) as morphological and physical properties from an integral observational perspective.

Undergraduate research

SM ionization and star formation in minor mergers of galaxies

This research focused on the interaction process of minor merges, using photometric data from 8 systems, where 5 of them also had spectroscopic data, taken with the 1.6 m telescope of the Pico dos Dias Observatory (OPD) in Brazil. It was found that the electron density in merges is higher than in isolated galaxies. It was also found that star formation is higher in minor merges than in isolated galaxies, these data were compared with the dispersion of gas velocities where it was found that as one increases the other increases, indicating that the turbulence caused by gravitational interaction favors the formation of stars. by gravitational interaction favors star formation and ISM ionization.
